RAO All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Deepa Dasmunsi on Saturday accused the BJP and the RSS of betraying the faith of millions of devotees by ‘allowing financial irregularities’ in the management of donations collected for the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Addressing the media at Andhra Ratna Bhavan, she demanded a Supreme Court-monitored judicial probe into the alleged embezzlement of donations and sought accountability from the Union government. Ms. Dasmunsi said the Congress was raising three key questions before the nation: who would take responsibility for the alleged irregularities in the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust; why the resignations of former general secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra had been accepted if everything was transparent; and why the Centre was unwilling to order an independent investigation under the supervision of the Supreme Court. The Congress leader alleged that while action had been initiated against lower-rung employees, senior functionaries had escaped accountability. Dasmunsi called for FIRs and arrests of all those allegedly involved, dissolution and reconstitution of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, a forensic audit of all donations and expenditures and a judicial inquiry monitored by the Supreme Court.
